Support in the workplace

As somebody combining a caring role with paid employment you are likely to need support in the workplace, at different times and on a number of different levels.

It may be that you need access to a telephone to check on the person you care for, or to arrange leave to fit in with someone coming out of hospital. The good news is that carers do have statutory rights and more and more employers are coming to realise the benefits of supporting carers.  There is more information about carers rights at work on the Carers UK website

Blackburn with Darwen Carers Service

Blackburn with Darwen Carers Service offers free employment advice sessions for carers.  They can also advise you on your rights at work.  To find out more visit their website

Blackburn with Darwen Borough Council

As a major local employer, Blackburn with Darwen Borough Council supports carers in the workforce by promoting flexible working arrangements which allow carers to remain in, or return to work. Get in touch for further details and to see what vacancies are currently available.

Bootstrap Supported Employment Service

Bootstrap's Supported Employment Service has a dedicated supported employment worker for carers. This worker can go through the whole process with a carer, from thinking about what sort of work or volunteering opportunity, to working through the practicalities of making it happen, including 'walking alongside' the person as they settle into their new job.
