Training and learning opportunities

Many carers find that having an activity outside of caring is essential to their own well being. It gives them a break from the demands of caring and helps boost their self esteem.

That is why we support carers by providing information on a range of training courses designed to help with the caring role, or provide a welcome break through learning something completely different.

Are you eligible?

If the person you care for is eligible to receive services from us then you can benefit from the help and support provided by Adult Social Care. That can be determined by an assessment of their needs, which is basically a discussion that helps us to understand what help and support both they, and you, might need. We will talk to you during the assessment and that is a good time to say what courses you would like to undertake and to make sure that your wishes are taken into account when planning to meet your needs and those of the person you care for. Or you can have a separate Carers Assessment. Follow the links below for more information.

Improving caring skills

Blackburn with Darwen Carers Service can give you information and advice about a range of training courses that can help you in your caring role. These courses may be on moving, handling and lifting the person you care for more safely, acquiring pieces of minor equipment that might help you, or linking up with other agencies who can provide you with specialised support. You can find out more about what's on offer by contacting the Blackburn with Darwen Carers Service.

Being creative

Blackburn College and the Neighbourhoods and Learning Service also offer courses  to help you explore your creative side. These include garden design, floristry, soft furnishings, pottery and art, to name a few. There are also a number of computer and digital-based courses, as well as courses to brush up on your maths, reading and writing skills. Work based learning courses are also available in customer service, catering, playwork, teaching assistance, business administration and many other fields.  You can find out more by following the link below.
