Careers in adult social care

Blackburn with Darwen Borough Council provides 'excellent' social care for vulnerable people in Blackburn and Darwen through a wide range of caring, advisory and support services.

Our aim is to achieve the best possible quality in social care for the most vulnerable people. To achieve this we work closely with local health services and other independent and voluntary organisations to make sure that people get help when they need it most.

Our work incorporates the following main service areas:

Adult social care services:

  • Community Social Work Teams - The team deals with all initial requests for assessments advice and information.
  • Hospital Team - Facilitates discharges and follows up people after discharge from hospital.
  • Learning Disability Team - The team assists people with a learning disability within Blackburn with Darwen.
  • Safeguarding Adults Team - Takes the lead in all safeguarding matters.
  • Emergency Duty Team - Deals with all out of hours requests for assessments or assistance.
  • Reablement team - Helps people to regain their independence following a period of illness.
  • Day centres for people with dementia and people with a learning disability
  • Mental health services

Become a Shared Lives carer

A Shared Lives Scheme placement offers vulnerable adults the chance to receive the care and support they need in a different setting to the family home, or the supported accommodation, in which they usually live.  People requiring support are matched with an approved carer and live as part of the family household.  You can be approved to offer a long term placement which involves supporting someone on a full time basis, on a short term basis, or for respite or day support. If you are interested in becoming a paid Shared Lives carer please contact us on (01254) 269277 or (01254) 269278.  Further information is also available in this leaflet.
