Contact details of where to go in an emergency situation.


Your first stop should always be your local GP. They will be familiar with your medical history and will be able to direct you appropriately. Out of normal surgery hours you will be redirected to East Lancashire Medical Services, a local service that provides cover for GPs from 6.30pm to 8am during the week and all day at weekends and Bank Holidays. 

Adult Social Care

In an emergency out of normal office hours contact the Out Of Hours Service on 01254 587547.   A trained Social Worker will speak to you over the phone to assess the situation and decide the best course of action.

Accident & Emergency

Royal Blackburn Hospital's Accident & Emergency Department is open 24 hours a day 7 days a week for emergency care.

Emergency Services

In an emergency, ring 999 for immediate help from the Ambulance, Fire or Police. 


The Samaritans provides confidential non-judgemental emotional support, 24 hours a day for people who are experiencing feelings of distress or despair, including those which could lead to suicide. Phone 116 123.

Mental Health Crisis Resolution and Home Treatment Team

When life seems overwhelming and you feel you have nowhere to turn Blackburn with Darwen's Mental Health Crisis Resolution and Home Treatment Team may be able to help.  The Crisis Resolution and Home Treatment Team aims to help people who are experiencing mental distress to help themselves out of a crisis. The service helps to resolves problems and offers practical and emotional support in the best environment. It can also help with short term alternative and supported accommodation when needed and can help you to make plans for the future.  Help and support is available by phone too and trained staff can signpost you to other agencies that may be able to help you.
